Zimbabwe born, Staffordshire based artists Munya’s work was shortlisted and accepted into the Open Gallery Animal Planet exhibition in Halifax and we want to shout about it.
Munyaradzi Napoleon Nhananga was born in Zimbabwe in 1989 and grew up in Victoria Falls. In 2008, after some time running a business, he started specializing in art and has been selling his works ever since.
Munya did not study art at school, instead he taught himself how to draw and paint by spending a lot of time visiting local artists to see their approaches in art and observing how hard they worked to capture the detail of their subjects. Munya’s passion for art has matured as he grew up and so did his techniques.
He said:
‘Nature has always been my source of inspiration. I draw and paint anything, mostly wildlife and portraits, using oil paints, acrylics, oil pastels and graphite pencils. I’ve been an artist since 2008, I can’t see myself doing anything else’
Since meeting Munya as part of our Africa 54, Tribes exhibition in Newcastle-under-Lyme, he has been an asset to Kwanzaa Collective UK – Facilitating workshops with young people, helping to judge work as part of the annual Three Counties Exhibition, attending conferences and sharing his talent with business owners, MPs and councillors at the Black Business award ceremony. Congratulations Munya, we can’t wait to see what you do next.
